Enhanced Care Management Team

Adeline Medverd, ECM Coordinator

Adeline was born and raised in Seattle, Washington before moving to Santa Barbara to attend the University of California Santa Barbara in 2020. Since earning her B.S. in Biology in 2024, she has remained in the Santa Barbara area, working as a medical assistant.

Adeline first discovered her passion for working with underserved communities in 8th grade during a weekly volunteer job at Teen Feed, a local organization dedicated to providing resources to teens experiencing homelessness in the Seattle area. During her time there she formed close relationships with the clients, many of whom were just a few years older than she was but were faced with vastly different life circumstances. This experience sparked her continued desire to advocate for unhoused and underserved communities.

Adeline plans to apply to medical school next year and hopes to carry forward everything she has learned from her prior community work and her time at Doctors Without Walls in order to address growing healthcare inequalities and to provide accessible, holistic, and compassionate care.

She first joined Doctors Without Walls in 2024 as a Companion Care volunteer and is excited to begin her position as the Enhanced Management Care Coordinator and to work alongside such a passionate and dedicated team.

In her free time Adeline loves long runs, spending time with friends, polar plunging at sunrise, and sketching!

Rosendo Barajas, ECM Case Manager

Rosendo Barajas is a Case Manager with over three years of frontline experience and a valued member of the Doctors Without Walls (DWW) team. Known for his dedication, resilience, and people-first approach, Rosendo plays a vital role in supporting individuals as they navigate complex medical, social, and systemic challenges.

In his role, Rosendo conducts comprehensive client assessments, develops individualized care plans, coordinates healthcare and social services, advocates for clients across systems, and carefully monitors progress to ensure continuity of care. His work helps bridge critical gaps between patients and providers, ensuring resources are accessed efficiently, ethically, and with dignity.

Before joining DWW, Rosendo spent more than two years working at a low-barrier shelter, where he gained firsthand insight into the realities of homelessness, untreated mental illness, and substance use disorders. There, he supported individuals through pivotal moments, helping them transition off the streets, secure identification and benefits, access medical and behavioral health care, navigate court systems, and begin the path toward stability and housing. He has responded to overdose emergencies, experienced the loss of clients he deeply cared for, and celebrated milestones such as sobriety, employment, and permanent housing.

Prior to entering the nonprofit sector, Rosendo spent 20 years in retail management, overseeing $65 million in annual sales and managing teams as large as 300 employees at a time. While successful, he felt called to pursue work with deeper purpose, prompting a return to school and a career shift into service.

Today, Rosendo lives in Santa Barbara with his husband Erik of eight years and their dog, Penny. In addition to his full-time role at DWW, he works part-time in an emergency department, bringing his diverse skill set to fast-paced, high-impact environments. A schedule he describes as “organized chaos.”

As he puts it: “I love what I do and I love who I get to be while doing it.”
